Goodbye 2016. Hello New Life!

Every New Year, people talk about how they want to change their life and work on personal goals. I am one of those people but I often start to fail a month in. This year, since I have a blog space, I decided that I would share a few of my 2017 life goals publicly. So if I fail, everyone will know!

One of the things my loving partner taught me was to make detailed goals. Having vague goals tend to make one push them to the side for later. If you have an idea of how to achieve these goals, you are more likely to succeed and  far more willing to go after them.

For example; If I want to exercise more I should come up with a rough schedule of what I want to do to make it happen. If I want to join a gym, which gym? How much does it cost and can you find a gym buddy? Which days do I want to go? If I want to exercise at home, how will I do this? Yoga on YouTube? Have links ready to make it easier for your 2017-self to find. This will make it easier to jump right in before you can make excuses. We all know how Youtube can suck you in for hours of browsing.

Here are a few of my 2017 goals!

B.C Waterfall/Camping Trip with friends: I am lucky to be from British Columbia, Canada, where our natural world is so breathtaking. However, despite living here for 29 years, I have barely seen some of its grand wonders.  This year (2016), I started researching all the larger waterfall in British Columbia. I made notes of how to get there and even created a Google map that would guide us in one big circle around BC, where we can hit most of the waterfalls. There is still a lot of planning to do for this trip but having the map continues to inspire me!

And yes, if this happens (as it should), I will be blogging or vlogging about it!
There are also a lot of waterfalls on Vancouver Island that I will have to make another trip for! There are a few waterfalls that are further away that I do intend to visit sometime in my life!

 

Fix My Car and Drive More: I am one of those people who still does not have their novice driver’s license. When I first started working, the town I lived in was small and did not really require a car to get around. When I moved to the coast, I relied on buses and bikes for transportation. Now that I want to travel more and explore, it is time that I get down to business and get my license so I do not have to rely on others to get around. Getting my license will allow me to hike more and do activities that I normally could not do without someone driving me there. Besides, Xena (my car) needs to get out more too! Vroom! Vroom!

Exercise More: Despite what I said earlier, I still do not have a detailed plan about this particular goal. When the weather warms up, it will be easier to go for runs without freezing my trachea but in the meantime, I have to keep in shape doing things in doors. I have yet to sit down and plan this one out but I do have an ‘appointment’ at a gym where two friends attend to see if spending money on it is worth it. If it is, then I have to convince myself to go! Having a gym buddy will certainly help!I find myself sitting at the computer a lot so I want to make it a habit to go on more walks in between computer sessions and to do more stretches to keep the blood flowing. This has been one of my goals every new year! This year I will make exercising a habit! Hiking, walking, running, stretching, etc! Let’s make it happen! –Flexes Muscles-

Craft and Sell on Etsy: This is hard for me. I love making things but sometimes I lack inspiration to move forward. Even when I do make things, I find it strange to market myself and try to make people buy my art. 2017 will be the year where I make at least three to four items a month and I will not be afraid to show off my work to friends, family and followers! Click here to go to my store!

Eat Healthy and Avoid Intolerance and Allergies: I want to make eating healthier a priority this year. Eating ‘healthy’ is somewhat difficult for me as I am allergic or intolerant to many foods (good and bad foods). This year, I want to try to avoid things that make me sick even if they taste delicious (Bye-bye store-bought pizzas and ice cream). Since there are 365 days in a year, I’m obviously going to fail at eating 100% healthy but I want to aim for at least 70-80%. If that doesn’t work, I want to make sure that I am in-taking more healthy foods than I am junk food, allergies and intollerances . Allergies are easy to avoid since I react to them instantly and tend to feel really bad when I eat them. Intolerances are difficult because they take a little longer for me to feel the effects and sometimes I do not feel the results until a few days later when my intestines become inflamed.

If you want to share some amazing recipes with me, please do. Here are a list of allergies and intolerances from bad to meh.
Allergies: Peanuts, Macadamia nuts, and Citrus/acidic (Raw Tomatoes, raw apples, raw potatoes, and strawberries).
Intolerances: Corn, Dairy (I’m fine with white cheeses and yogurt), corn, eggs, wheat, celery, legumes, spelt, kamut wheat, and melons (I’m probably missing something). I have a hard time digesting forms of protein.

And I don’t eat meat, poultry, and fish.

Socialise more!These last few years I’ve been a home body. This year, I want to go out and do more activities and meet more people like I use to. I have already signed up for a few Paint Nites with some friends and hope to do more activities in the future. I want to get back into Kung Fu or another form of martial arts (wing-chun, Kobudo, etc) but I am super picky on where I want to train. I need to learn to say “yes” more even when I am feeling tired and lazy. I will be actively looking for new and interesting courses and classes to attend. I will also invite people over and/or out more. I will interact with people more. I will open myself up to new adventures!

Things I am interested in: Conventions, dance classes, art classes, local meetups, and volunteering.

Write More: I want to write more. I want to focus on my two novels, blog and some online stories I create with friends. This is something I’ve been pushing myself to do for some time. I was pretty active with my novel writing earlier in 2016 but I slowed down near the end. I need to train myself to write even if I feel uninspired. I want to designate time at least three or four days a week for specific kinds of writing.

Read more: Near the end of 2016, a group of friends and I started a book club. I want to continue the book club throughout 2017. I also want to add a few shorter stories into my reading schedule to keep me inspired and thinking (even if this means listening to audio books before bed or on the bus). If you  have any book/story recommendations, please let me know! I would love to hear from you.

  • Finish a Novel

  • Learn or attempt to surf (Make a trip to Tofino)
  • Paddle board
  • Kayak
  • Downsize household items
  • Education (Enter into a specific program -secrets-)
  • Get driver’s license
  • Make a few trips home to visit friends and family.
  • Move into a new place where we can have animals with a yard and/or garden space <3
